Samsung India has announced that their 2017 flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S8 and the S8 Plus will be launched in India next week on April 19, the official Twitter handle of Samsung India tweeted out on Friday. No information regarding the price and availability has been made available yet but it is expected that the smartphones will go on sale on April 21 in India, same as the global release date.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ were announced in an ‘Unpacked’ event on March 29. The Galaxy flagships feature a 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch QHD AMOLED ‘Infinity Display’ with the front and rear sides encased in Gorilla Glass 5. Both the Galaxy S8 and the S8+ come with the display curved towards the side edges with bezels on top and bottom.

Under the hood, the smartphones are expected to rock Exynos processor when they launch in India. Though, the US variants of the Galaxy S8 and the S8+ come with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor. The Galaxy S8 smartphones are backed by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage with an option to expand the storage to up to 256GB using a microSD card. Earlier this month, Samsung also announced a 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage variant of Galaxy S8+ in South Korea but it's unlikely that the company will bring that variant to Indian shores anytime soon.

The rear camera on the 2017 Galaxy flagships has a 12-megapixel sensor with Dual Pixel technology while the front houses an 8-megapixel sensor with Smart autofocus, a first for any smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is powered by a 3,000 mAh battery while a slightly bigger 3,500 mAh battery powers the Galaxy S8+.

The smartphones run Android 7.0 Nougat under Samsung’s customised interface.

With the launch of the Galaxy S8 devices, the company also introduced its own personal assistant called Bixby which also happens to have its dedicated button on the side edge of the smartphones. However, in a recent statement to The Verge, Samsung has confirmed that Bixby Voice would not be available at the time of launch and would only come to the Galaxy smartphones later this spring.

We expect the Galaxy smartphones to launch in a price range closer to Rs 50,000 mark.
